The Principality of Carmont

The Principality of Carmont is a developing micronation founded on August 17th 2026, established on the principles of tradition, continuity, order, service, and responsible governance. As an absolute Principality, the Crown is at the heart of Carmont's constitutional and national life.

The name Carmont is formed from two linguistic elements: carbo, the Latin word for “coal”, and mont, derived from the French for “hill” or “mount.” Together, the name may be understood literally as “coal hill” or “hill of coal.”

The name reflects the land's historic association with coal and the character of the landscape, whilst also drawing upon the successive Roman, Saxon, Viking and Norman influences that have shaped its heritage. Carmont therefore embodies both the natural and historical foundations upon which the Principality has established its own distinct identity.

Carmont was founded with the intention of creating a Principality grounded in tradition, continuity, order and service, while embracing the opportunities of modern administration. As the Principality develops, so too will its institutions, laws, culture and national identity.
